Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)
This is a technique used to detect genetic changes in the embryo.
There are different types on preimplantation genetics testing techniques, which are grouped based on the aim of the test
PGT-A
These techniques test embryos for chromosomal diseases such as Downs Syndrome
PGT-M
These techniques test embryos for hereditary monogenic diseases such as Sickle Cell Anaemia, Huntington’s disease and Fragile X syndrome
PGT-SR
These techniques screen for rearrangements in the chromosomes, such as inversions and translocations, which are linked to recurrent miscarriages when unbalanced
Eligibility
Inheritable genetic diseases e.g. Sickle Cell Anaemia
Presence of abnormal karyotype in one or both parents
History of fetal aneuploidy
Recurrent implantation failure
Advanced maternal age
